FEATURE STORY: In just two short years, 12 yr old Connor Barge has collected donations in excess of $1000 for the Icebreakers! Connor was born with a very rare genetic condition called Progressive Pseudorheumatoid Dysplasia (PPD). It is a skeletal dysplasia that affects all of his joints and has some clinical resemblance to rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms typically develop between 3 & 8 years of age and include progressive joint stiffness and pain, soft tissue swelling and deformalities of multiple joints. Those afflicted with PPD experience continued cartilage loss & destructive bone changes as they age, notibly in the spine.
Although some medical procedures and certain medicines seem to help with the pain, joint replacement surgery becomes necessary. There is no known cure for this crippling disease except joint replacement.
Connor has been dealing with symptoms of this disease since he was 18 months old. He has tried all the braces on his legs and has had many surgical procedures done on his legs and ankles including breaking and straightening both legs at age 3. They had to re-break one of his legs 2 years later. He also had pins put in both of his hips. His latest surgery was a total right hip replacement when he was 11 years old.
Connor is an amazing kid who never complains about having this disease. Sled Hockey is one of the first sports that Connor has been able to participate in. He absolutely loves it and looks forward to it every week!
Connor’s favorite subject is science. He loves fishing, camping, UC Bearcat Football, and collecting pocket knives. Connor would like to be a CEO of a knife company when he grows up! Thank you to the Barge Family (Connor is front right). Cheers to Connor for his inspiration to all of us!!

The FLYING PIG was a success! The rain didn't keep anyone home! Thank you
